Yesterday, the Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR) hosted Pizza with Professors at Gorgas and we had seven faculty share their research with about 50 undergraduate students! Dr. Bittle (mechanical engineering), Dr. Griffin (communication studies), Dr. Wingo (kinesiology), Dr. Dolliver (criminology and criminal justice), Dr. Kelly (nursing), Dr. Gray (computer science), and Dr. Culmer (community health sciences) are all doing really cool research studies and involving undergraduates on their research teams. It was very neat to see the students really engage with the faculty about research (and the pizza was great too). Emerging scholars like Alex Perry and Research and Society honors students like Ethan Sij as well as many other students came to learn about research possibilities on campus!
The Emerging Scholars Program was represented at two events at The University of Alabama last week! First, on Monday, we were at Get on Board Day. And while we got a little rained on, we enjoyed meeting students who are interested in getting involved in research at UA! The, we went to Rollin' on the River, hosted by Honor's College at the River Market. This was another great event, with a great band, where we were able to meet with more students and tell them about the Emerging Scholars Program! Calling all interested students!! Emerging Scholars Program applications are due November 1st. Application materials can be found in the Future Scholars Tab on this website! Please Contact Us with questions! Yesterday, August 28th, we welcomed a new cohort of the Emerging Scholars Program to The University of Alabama. This Fall, we have almost 60 students, freshmen through juniors in our Semester 1 cohort. Not only did we have class yesterday, but we also held a scavenger hunt with students from UA 155, UA 156, and other Emerging Scholars alum. This semester, Dr. Bissell and I are committed to not only providing ESP scholars with information about Undergraduate Research on Campus but also to promoting a sense of community within ESP. The ESP First Annual Scavenger Hunt was our first community-building event of the academic year, with more to come! This event was a huge success and culminated with pizza, cookies, and visits from the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, Dr. Pinkert and the Associate Vice President for Research, Dr. Higginbotham. ~Dr. Bolland |
